let's get a few things about emo straight

alright, let's start at the top. the term emo was designed to designate a specific type of punk rock. it stands for emotional hardcore.

(incidentally, you should know it takes me twice as long to type these fucking things when i go back and fix all the typos.)

so..that said...emo is punk rock. just because it talks about relationships instead of politics doesn't make it un-punk. punk is an attitude, not a sound.

(i.e. dmx is punk rock. murder city devils is punk rock. jonnie cash is punk rock. thomas jefferson was punk rock. dylan thomas was punk rock. get the idea?)

next off, bands like save the day and current jimmy eat world are not emo...they are pop rock. that doesn't make them bad neccesarily, just don't call them emo. they're not. the attitude has been traded for comercial desire for gain. they are puppets for studios and record labels.

if you want to listen to real emo try cap'n jazz, braid, rainer maria, the owls, early (as in pre-clarity) jimmy eat world, fugazi. of course, none of these bands would call themselves emo. that's the other thing. any real emo band will call itself punk-rock. so the title itself doesn't really have any meaning except for shitty bands trying to tag along to something that can't be created by labeling yourself.

so, that being understood, go buy yourself some real punk rock (and no, the sex pistols and the ramones are not the only real punk rock bands, so all of you punk purists can stop wasting the oxygen the rest of us could be breathing.)

that said, put yourself in a copy of braid's age of octeen and let "autobiography" rip your soul out.
