the human drainage syndrome

i didn't have anything to say, i just dialed randomly
most of the numbers in the book of numbers
(in my phone) and everyone was answering machines, voicemails,
they always are on those nights
when what you want most is to hear
another human voice speaking out loud
about anything at all.
