a slight political detour (for which i appologize)

last night, for the first time in my life, i forwarded something i recieved by email to some friends of mine. as a rule, i don't do that, and don't particularly like it done to me, unless it is deemed an imporant issue by the sender, which this was. what i forwarded was a part of a program to write senators regaurding the federal marraige amendment act that comes up for vote in early july.

my view on this is that regaurdless of anyone's personal beliefs, the point (according to the founding fathers) of this country is to allow everyone the freedom to do as they choose as long as they are not infringing on the rights of another human being. it's a pretty good standard i feel, allowing everyone the freedom to worship, live, and believe as they choose on any issue. what is being put forth is an amendment into our constitution that basically legalizes descrimination. the bill was created to decide who was and wasn't good enough to get married (in the legal sense of married, as marraige outside of the legal sense cannot be governed). this may seem like i'm simplifying the issue, but it really is that simple. anyway, if you are one of the people i sent it to and you beleive that discrimination should be a part of our constitution or else just don't like getting things by email you didn't ask for, i appologize for bothering you with it.

if, on the other hand, you would like to make a statement about this issue (or another statement as the case may be), let me know by email or guestbook or whatnot and i will send you the details. the experts int his program estimate that we need aproximatly 250,000 letters to go out between the beginning date of the program and july 1 in order to have susbstantial impact. to date, 25,000 have gone out. the process of adding your name to the list of letters that go out takes no more than thirty seconds (the H.R.C. or Human Rights Campaign will actually do all of the sending for you if you give them permission as well as paying the postage price). anyway, anyone who reads here knows i am not a political person in my work, but i consider this a pretty serious issue, so if you are interested in at least the details of this program, please let me know and i'll forward them onto you.
