hourglasses

i think of san diego and sunshines wihtout blisters
throwing handfuls of seawater at a girl with marmalade bathing suit on.

you walk into a room, shouldered wind and
histories are all we have, but some of us still
laugh still laugh still
surely the footing has not been lost
and we are not without the future we planned.

i think of stories that come across only vaguely
of hours unspent tearing pages form notebooks, you the darling little girl
of sand and sea, i know your eyes still laugh and shine
beyond the summer we spent together
ageless and dying.
