wyndam anatole: bright lights, big canopy
smalled canned food eyes, corn-fed mouths
washed out displays and fliers that mark
the passing of days like old friends, drunkards in
the courtyard laughing up the long storm,
breakdancers, head-spinners: celebration, yes
once a year we tell each other stories
teach the math of money to children
(most of whom outearn us)
a brightened forehead clamp-hand
eyes drawn in, worn through
it's a long week for the upside.
