strange how the ears ring

i was standing outside tapping my toes to the new rainer maria tune and knew it was time to get some rest. i laid down in bed and got this crazy little comic strip zeitgeist thing going in my head.

a man walks slowly to another man smiles awkward, "i know that look. kelly, right?"

"how did you know?"

"only one thing cocks a look like that on a man's face. i'd know it anywhere."

"then what?"

"we get romped."

"i won't."

"just remember, in the world of kelly, all that matters is the way you look. you can be a complete asshole to her all the time but as long as you make her look good in public she'll deal with it."

"i'll keep that in mind."

"no, you won't. just like the rest of us, you think you're going to change it, change things. but, you won't. you're going to be just like the rest of us. soiled and chained ugly to the bottom of the sea, begging to drown. but she won't let you. then you'll tell some other guy all this and wonder why he won't listen."

"listen, did it ever occurr to you that i might just be different?"

"in the eyes of kelly we are all one."

"what's that supposed to mean?"

"it means she doesn't see a difference in any of us. we're just another peice on her arm at crucial moments."

"you amke her sound so cold hearted."

"no not at all. when a spider eats a fly we don't call it cold hearted, it is only doing what it does. of course, that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt the fly."

"i can't believe your calling her a predator."

"it's not all bad. she'll make you strong. just don't confuse the situation. you are there to think you're an exception and then get romped and left gasping for one more kiss in the acid rain of three mile island. or maybe chernobyl. wherever she chooses to drop you off."

"maybe, she won't drop me off."

"she will."

"how could you possibly know that?"

"because i used to be you."

"you were never me. you're just a failure who wants everyone else to fail because he did."

"maybe so."

"maybe so is right."

"tell her jimmy said hi though for me, will you?"

"whatever, man."

"that's fine too, tell her whateverman said hi."

"you're one sick fuck."

"just don't forget what i said. you dont' have to love her or treat her right or care one way or the other as long as you look good on her arm. but, if you don't, all the loving and caring and propper treatment in the world won't stop the boot to your ass."

"we'll see."

"indeed."
